The line has four main branches which join at Harrow-on-the-Hill:

• Amersham Branch
• Chesham Branch
• Uxbridge Branch
• Watford Branch

At off peak times, all Metropolitan Line trains serve all stations north of Baker Street. Trains to Amersham and Chesham usually start at Aldgate, along with some of the Uxbridge bound services. All trains to Watford and some of the Uxbridge trains start at Baker Street.

At peak times, many trains from all four branches run to and from Aldgate, but some still terminate at Baker Street. A few trains on the Amersham and Chesham branches also operate a fast, limited stop service between Finchley Road and Moor Park only calling at Harrow-on-the-Hill and Moor Park before resuming their usual pattern of serving all stations.

Some of these fast trains also call at Wembley Park. A few trains in the morning and evening peaks terminate at Moorgate instead of Aldgate and this can also happen at off peak times during periods of late running or other service disruption. Some early morning and late evening trains call at Willesden Green station on the Jubilee Line and this also applies during weekend engineering work or at times of service disruption on either the Jubilee or Metropolitan Line.
