Environs – Canary Wharf

Location

The station is an integral part of a large shopping and office complex, details of which lie beyond the scope of this survey.

We noted Upper Bank Street (north/south), Montgomery Street (north/south) and Montgomery Square outside the station. We understand that Upper Bank Street leads north from Bank Street (east/west) and that Heron Quay (east/west) is south of the station.

Entrances and Exits

We identify four entrances/exits to this station:

  • the West Exit, towards Jubilee Plaza

Local Buses

We found no bus stops within the scope of this survey. We understand that buses run along the South and North colonnades past Canary Wharf DLR Station, but we found no bus stops there either.

Local Features

The Shopping Malls

This station is part of a large shopping and office complex. There are shopping areas to the north and south of the station at Level -2, again to either side at Level -1 and some above the station at Level 0.

So as to annotate our routes to/from Canary Wharf DLR Station, we’ve called the two spaces north of the station at Level -1 the East Mall (which we believe incorporates Canada Square and Cabot Place), lying east of the DLR Station. The area lying west of the DLR Station has been identified as the West Mall. We’ll correct these names should it become necessary.

Local Taxis

We understand there’s a taxi rank on the South Colonnade, about three minutes walk west of the DLR Station.

From Heron Quays DLR Station

This is the simpler station and is probably slightly nearer than Canary Wharf DLR Station. There are only two platforms from which you can get trains towards Bank or Lewisham.

From Canary Wharf DLR Station, you can also get trains towards Stratford, so we include directions from both stations here.

See The Environs Page of our guide to Heron Quays Station for details of the route from here.

The building containing the lift and escalators to the shopping mall is to your left from the foot of the north steps or to your right as you approach Heron Quay from the south steps, lift or exit escalators.

Go down to Jubilee Line Station Level, leave via the other door then turn right (north) and go through the door in front of you. Continue, bearing left (northwest), to the door beyond the retail unit on your left. You go through the door, going north, along a short passage then through another door into the Ticket Hall and turn right (east). The gate line is in front of you and the ticket sales windows are on your right before the gates.
